How to Set Up the Castora IPTV Player — Complete Guide

Castora is a third-party IPTV player on the Apple App Store. It is a media player that accepts standard M3U / M3U8 playlists and Xtream Codes logins, and it ships with no content of its own: you need a playlist or login from your provider. This guide walks through a clean setup and the most common problems.

Before you start

You will need:

An iPhone or iPad. Check the App Store listing to confirm your device is supported.
One of:
- An M3U / M3U8 playlist URL, or
- Xtream Codes credentials (host URL, username, password).

1. Install the app

Install Castora from the Apple App Store. It is free to download, with in-app purchases. Only install apps from sources you trust — do not install IPTV apps via sideloading tools or unofficial profiles.

2. Add your source

The app lets you add a source in one of two ways:

Playlist URL: paste the full M3U or M3U8 URL exactly as your provider gave it. Some providers serve the playlist behind a query string (for example ?type=m3u_plus), so copy the whole URL.
Xtream Codes: enter the host URL exactly (including http:// or https:// and the port, if your provider specified one), plus your username and password.

Large playlists with thousands of channels can take a while to load the first time.

Xtream Codes logins usually include live channels, movies and series as separate sections, and often the programme guide (EPG) as well.

Common issues

"Cannot load playlist" / "Invalid URL"

Open the URL in a browser. If it does not return anything, the playlist or the provider is offline.
Make sure you copied the full URL, including any query string at the end.

Channels load, but some don't play

If only specific channels fail, the problem is almost always on the provider's side.
If nothing plays at all, re-check your login details or ask your provider whether your subscription is active.

Constant buffering

Test your internet speed. As a rough guide, HD streams need a steady 10 Mbps or more, and 4K streams around 25 Mbps.
If speed is fine but buffering persists, try a VPN. ISP-level throttling on streaming traffic is more common than people realise.
On a TV, a wired connection is far more stable than Wi-Fi.

The programme guide (EPG) is empty

Not every playlist includes guide data. Check with your provider whether theirs does.
In M3U playlists, the guide only matches channels that have tvg-id values.

If you watch on a TV
